I first got into it in early 2008 when I saw a cute boy down the skatepark wearing a sparkly fiendskull shirt

Did anyone see Lauren on Hollyoaks last week wearing a Misfits t-shirt? It was so awesome... _________________

"Hollyoaks"? "Lauren"? These words are strange to me...

From the age of three or four, I became almost obsessed with Nightmare On Elm Street. My parents found this very strange, but always took a 'let him make his own mind up' attitude.
This lead to me stealing all the Nightmare... VHS' from my Dad's collection and watching them for hours on end.
Then I discovered Halloween, Evil Dead and The Exorcist around the age of eight. So horror was a big part of my life as a kid.
When I started secondary school, I made friends with this guy who found out I loved horror movies. He said 'have you heard the Misfits? You'd love them lyrically.'
So, I bought Walk Among Us and I got chills. I couldn't believe how cool this music was and right away bought everything else by them.
From there I found bands like The Damned, Danzig, The Cramps etc. and it's been a constant interest of mine ever since. _________________ Catch, catch the horror taxi.

I got into the whole "nu-metal" thing fairly early on, which led me to Fear Factory, NIN and towards industrial, including Skinny Puppy. A hot girl at school had a Skinny Puppy patch and a Misfits patch on her bag. Having never heard them, I assumed the Misfits were in a similar vein... :S
My dad overheard me talking about them when I got in from school that day and proudly dug out his first pressing vinyl of Earth A.D. Because I was expecting some kind of lo-fi 80s post-goth industrial style music, the title track blew me away, but I was hooked instantly
I got into AFI by playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, and still having a soft spot for nu-metal (obviously including Slipknot and Static-X) I heard about and got into the Murderdolls very quickly. My dad had played me the Damned as a kid, and I got back into them instantly. A little intuition, Google, Limewire, and a few months later, and I was full on into horror punk and deathrock, and have been ever since
But nu-metal is still good, dammit. Coal Chamber, Slipknot and Korn are still proudly represented on my bag in patch and button form...lambast me all you like "Fuk all tha hataz y'all"
