I don't think it's born properly yet so it can't be dying. It's just a case of raising awareness and getting more people into it. _________________

| I have to say I've not noticed it dieing - we got to a gig most weekends & to be honest I think the whole horror punk/deathrock/billy scene is doing pretty well at the moment, there are some great old bands out there & some excellent up & coming acts. I think you have to be preared to travel a bit & keep your eyes open for stuff. |

cal blaims the main stream horror punk bands! (aka, the other, blitzkid, etc)
they dont seem to want to play anywhere in the uk apart from london! I think if they were to sort out a proper tour, then it would get the intrest in horror punk back! My problem right now is that no one around me seems to be intrested in horror punk, thats why ive pretty much givin up on the idea of forming a band cause findin a drummer who into horror punk and free in liverpool is like trying to find a needle in a heystack. |

I guess they play in london cuz the scene's not big enough to make it worth them coming over doing a big tour, but there's lots of bands like that in all sorts of scenes. We went to see Stellar Corpses & Rezurex in Leicester so some do get around. Just have to get to what you can.
I do agree everything is centred around London, but its always been that way
What's needed is a decent UK disributor & some strong promotors. It won't happen overnight |

You can't blame the Other, Blitzkid etc., Why should they waste aload of money touring a country they're not that popular in? It's a lot cheaper for a fan to go to a band than the band to the fan... _________________

yea, ive been thinkin about this b4, and i realised that i wrote that compleetly wrong!
i rly should be pointing at alot of venues now where they have the whole, 'pay to play' thing goin on. Lets be fair, unless ur signed to warner bro's or somethin, your not gonna have much money to tour with, so you cant afford to play everywhere where you want to, so your fans have to travel miles to see you.
...maybe we should all start a horror punk fund so we can get bands to play ere XD |

If more people were into horror music, there'd be more gigs and stuff. Problem is alot of people don't even know it exists. _________________

| There's that & the whole debate over what is horror punk & if it even exists as a genre. |

Well, that fact that this forum even exists and there are hundreds of people into the whole "spooky punk" thing, even if "horror punk" as a genre is particuarly weak in the UK at the moment. All it takes is one (emphasis on) good band to break through. You can't deny the impact bands like Aiden (boo!) and MCR (hiss!) had, even if they are only slightly influenced by the Misfits et al. I Am Ghost are an example of a band with a dark aesthetic and an energetic punk influenced sound that are getting popular in the UK. Now, I realise that every band I've mentioned thus far are American, but UK fans obviously know about them.
One problem is that people aren't taking horror punk in its purest form seriously. There has to be a breakdown or a screamy part every five seconds for some people to even consider listening. But the newer bands themselves are being taken seriously and some people do go and look at what the bands themselves listen to. Steve Juliano, wiL Francis and Gerard Way all listen to AFI, the Misfits, etc. Things can only get better.

Not really sure any of that was relevant, just rambling in a general "all is not lost" kind of way...

That's certainly true. In fact even through just this forum, I've discovered like 5 new bands that I now love. A friend of mine and I were discussing the Misfits and AFI and he sent me "Zombie I" by Calabrese. I now love them too. Even weirder, reading about Killswitch Engage, I found out the bass player loves Integrity. "...that whole dark, gothic horror thing going on" was the quote I believe got my interest.
So even in the oddest places, new bands can be found. People must be doing this all the time. Perhaps the problem isn't that not enough people know about horror punk. Maybe the problem is not enough people know that a horror punk "scene" even exists. Like "Oh, I discovered this cool horror band, but none of my friends will like them or even take them seriously. I'll just keep quiet about it." That's happened near me a few times. Some people on this forum have said the Murderdolls were the first horror band they got into. Well that's an obvious one because of the whole Slipknot connection, and Slipknot being one of the biggest bands in the world at the time. Newcomers and people who only know about the mainstream must have gone "What the fuck? A...horror band?? That's crazy!"
Or not. I'll keep to short posts from now on. I promise.

Lol, you post away as much as you like, its good to have an informed opinion!
Personally I couldn't care less what anything's called, if I like it that's all that matters, but I do like punk & I do like horror. I also like psychobilly & rockabilly & death rock & lots of things. But I don't like stuff just because it falls into a certain category, I think that's the important thing.
Anyway, I don't think its dieing in the UK, its just kinda getting started. I think some people into the more established psychobilly & similar scenes are a bit resistant to anything new, including a newish label like 'horror punk'.
There you go, how's that for rambling? |

I think we're tieing so far...
Yeah, some people can be a bit resistant to new things, especially when they're pigeonholed so dramatically. I mean, there's so-called punk rock music about lots of things, but none so exclusive and incredibly obscure as horror. Music about love, politics, even comedic nonsense is pretty much universal. We all fall in love, we all have opinions and we all have a sense of humour. But not all of us are content to think/watch/listen/read about zombies and other such macabre creatures. It sounds ridiculous really doesn't it?
Oh man, another long post. Think I'm winning...
