me, the first "horror" band i liked (in college( were White Zombie, then i was into goth and punk so started listening to AFI and Alkaline Trio (about the time of Art of Drowning and Good Mourning), as well as bands like the DIstillers and the Nerve Agents, and got into the Misfits about the same time.

then started looking for stuff similar to/connected to the Misfits, like Samhain, Balzac and Son of Sam.  found Fiendforce records and bought the 'This is Horrorpunk' compilations and went on from there.

In me skool days an older friend gave me a mix tape with Atitude, 138 and Horror Hotel on one side and Halloween and Ratfink on the other... and until then I'd been like RAMONES ARE THE STUPIDEST BAND EVER!!! But on hearing the Misfits I became all MISFITS ARE EVEN STUPIDER THAN RAMONES!!! It was love. A couple of years later American Psycho came out and I thought it was cool, even tho alot of folks egged it.

I already loved The Cramps and The Damned, but didn't pay much atention to their gothic horror influences until I became a Misfits kid, I just thought they was sleazy rockers...

Well I've been into Metal / Hardcore and Punk since about '86 and I remember first hearing some Misfits stuff about '91 or '92 at a mates house. I love slasher films and B-Movies so the Danzig era stuff really appealed to me.

I later heard the newer stuff and liked that too. Other than the misfits I don't really listen to many other horror punk bands... but if something comes my way I'll always have a listen. Hell, 3 chords played fast and I'm there.

Snap.

I'll confess when I first heard the Danzig era Misfits, I HATED it. I can't listen to post-Danzig stuff too much anymore. I really have to be in the mood.

Well, horror movies inspired me to start writng songs thanks to my brother who played bass and gave me a few lessons - I think my first Misifts record was Collection 1 which I found on tape in a charity shop for £2, before that it was Screaming Lord Sutch and The Savages, Screaming Jay Hawkins and lots of strange records I'd find in second hand shops - always into punk but really that Misifts record changed it all for me and I havent looked back since.
