Rebellion Blackpool (Shadow Reichenstein, Pink Hearse etc.)

Did anybody else go?

Me and Vikki went - 'twas fun, a brilliant time had by all.

Saw loads of bands but there were a few who might be of interest on this board....

Pink Hearse played Thursday night and drew a pretty big crowd, although that might be more to do with the fact that Nikki (the singer) had apparently decided to do the gig in her underwear - certainly there were a lot more middle-aged fat men with cameras than you normally see at horrorpunk shows!  That said they are a pretty good band and she's a fantastic singer - the rest of the band could do with livening up and looking a bit less sulky, though.

Devilish Presley played Friday - they're hard to categorise, kind of garage rock, bit of punk and a rockabilly influence too, but they were really tight and won over a small crowd.

The Grit aren't anything to do with horror, but they do have a sizeable psychobilly influence and they played a blinder on Saturday.

Dragster are a band I haven't heard before but I thought I'd mention them as a) they do songs about zombies and b) one of them was wearing a Fall Victim t-shirt.  Anyway I really liked them, they're definitely worth checking out.

Shadow Reichenstein were a fairly last-minute addition to the bill on Sunday and it's safe to say they were definitely the odd band out of the weekend.

Whoever booked them and put them 3rd from the top on the bill was taking a big risk and I reckon they passed 95% of the punters by completely - people either not having any idea of who they are, period, or being put off by the gothic image and SS uniforms...

When we got there the place was pretty much deserted, and when they came on the assembled crowd basically consisted of me, Vikki, Ash Ghoulmore (the Karloff/Kreepsville guy), Grimly Fiendish from Misery of Sound, and the girlfriend of the guy taking the band photos...

I exaggerate, but not by much... as they played the crowd did get bigger, although it stayed pretty small.  SR to their credit were great and I'm really glad they were on the bill and we got to see them - but it kind of goes to some way to show how horror bands often struggle to find an audience here in the UK - even at a weekend with thousands of punk punters, SR ended up playing to a handful of horror punks and a few casual observers.

If anyone wants to see our Rebellion weekend photos (including me and Vikki dicking about in the Chamber of Horrors in Louis Tussaud's Wax Museum), they're on my MySpace.  It's friends only but I'll accept anyone from here who adds me - link in the WWW thing on my profile.

That's a shame but I thought it would happen. This tour should have had way more notice and better venues / themed club nights.

I held out to see what the TBA date was, hoping see them within 2 hours of Birmingham - this would have done but I wasn't going to pay £30 quid for 1 band and be surrounded by sad old punks.

No doubt SR will be truly pissed off by this shambles and never set foot in the UK again!  Evil or Very Mad

Well, SR seemed pretty nervous playing Rebellion and almost apologetic, but I think by the end they were pretty stoked to have got such a warm welcome from the few fans who were there...

Ash Ghoulmore kept telling them to play more songs which I think they hadn't expected.

I don't know if they'll be back but Shadow did say something along the lines of "the next time you see us..." when talking about the fact they weren't wearing full make-up, so I guess they aren't completely put off of the UK yet.

I don't know how their stand-alone shows went - maybe more people turned out to them?

We talked to Andy (Grimly Fiendish) before the gig and he said he'd spoken to SR about the TBA date and offered to put them on as a Misery of Sound gig, but they said they were going to try for Rebellion instead... maybe that didn't pay off but if the smaller shows did well, at least they know there's promoters here who can put them on and hopefully get a crowd in.

I'm sure they'll be back. Horror's just not that big in the UK...

Sounds better than I thought. Hope they're back... Razz

I guess it depends on how the tour went as a whole, and if they get any coverage in the relevant magazines etc as a result, if they managed to sell much CDs and merch, stuff like that.

We saw them sell 1 T-Shirt  Cool  Laughing

Surely they'll have got paid well for doing Rebellion?  3rd from the top?  Even if hardly anyone was there Wink

I'd probably have bought something too, if I had any cash left. Sad
