More Movie Remakes - Nightmare on Elm St & Rocky HorrorThere seems to be a rash of classic movies being marked for the remake treatment lately.
First up we have the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is being remade by MTV:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7558091.stm.
(My prediction - will be big and glossy but completely devoid of the original's charm and appeal...)
Now they've also announced a remake of the original Nightmare on Elm Street - with Billy Bob Thornton as Freddie Krueger:

That one should be... interesting...

I can't see how you could remake the Rocky Horror Show, they're either going to have to make it so its well produced & slick, in which case it'll loose all its charm, or they'll try & make it 'so bad its good', which never really works when film makers TRY to do it & also what would be the point anyway - might as well just watch the original
I for one won't be watching it. Its like the Blues Brothers 2000, I refuse to watch that

I'd heard about that as well. Sometimes they go too far...

Richard O'Brien does not endorse the new Rocky Horror remake, despite MTV claiming he did:

We should stage a protest or something. Get a load of people in Rocky Horror costumes to march on Sky and MTV and throw rice at executives and squirt them with water pistols, or force them to do the Time Warp...

As long as I don't have to cancel my Sky subscription - I'm not missing NCIS
How's that for double standards

Part of me hates remakes but part of me likes (some of) them. I mean, Halloween was a great example of a good one, there are others too but the list isn't very big. The ratio of bad remake to good remake is like 8:2 or something haha.
They (whoever "they" are) were once gonna remake Stephen King's IT, thank all things good and unholy that they didn't.

There have been a few good ones and to be honest a lot of the remakes are never really "bad" (although they do fare badly critically)...
It all just strikes me as unnecessary... I would much rather see the original 'Day the Earth Stood Still' or 'Creature from the Black Lagoon' get remastered and re-released in cinemas than see lazy studio execs spend millions of dollars on a remake which ends up being nowhere near as good as the original...
And I'd rather see much more new, original horror and sci-fi getting made rather than a check-list of old classics getting re-done by directors so in awe of the films that they loved as kids/teens/students that they are incapable of original ideas themselves.

Halloween wasn't really a straight remake though was it? But I know what you mean. I like the remakes of Hills Have Eyes too, but none of them are as good as the orginals IMO, sometimes its fun to have the stories or characters expanded on though.
I'd also like to see more original films, its kind of lazy to just remake stuff

I am too man, don't know if I wanna put myself through it. Have you heard Aiden's cover of Cry Little Sister? It's fucking terrible. I usually quite like Aiden, but this is a really bad cover.
